Formats and Tournaments

What types of bets are available in each format

The three main formats in cricket betting offer different experiences. In T20, a match ends within a few hours, so markets are comparatively tighter and faster-moving. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL are the two tournaments most popular among bettors in Bangladesh. The T20 World Cup adds extra interest at the international level because Bangladesh Tigers compete directly.

In the ODI format, markets are much broader across 50 overs. Innings totals, partnerships or runs in a specific powerplay are markets that are particularly popular in ODI. In ICC tournaments, a single wrong decision can change the direction of a match entirely, so odds shift quickly.

In Test cricket, the five-day format offers a different kind of betting. A draw is a separate result here, which does not exist in T20 or ODI. In Test matches, pitch behaviour, weather and a team's batting depth all influence odds. For those who prefer a more patient approach to betting, Test markets have their own appeal.

How is betting on football and other sports different

Alongside cricket, cx also offers betting on football and other sports. Since each sport has a different structure, the style of betting changes accordingly.

🏏 Cricket

Dramatic changes on every ball. Odds shift instantly when a wicket falls or a big six is hit. In T20, the last 5 overs often decide the fate of the entire match.

⚽ Football

Goals are relatively few in a 90-minute match, making a draw an important result. Asian Handicap and BTTS (both teams to score) are specific markets in football.

🎾 Tennis

A direct contest between two players — there is no draw. Set betting and tiebreaker markets are completely different from the over/under market in cricket.

🏀 Basketball

A high-scoring game, so total points markets are very active. Bets can also be placed on individual quarters, which is comparable to innings betting in cricket.

In cricket, a single wicket or a change in run rate can move odds in an instant — this is not as pronounced in any other sport. That is why bettors in Bangladesh generally consider cricket the most dynamic sport for betting. For more details on the site's rules and conditions, read the Terms and Conditions page.

Betting Markets

7 popular betting markets with simple examples

Below is how each market works, along with common examples. The numbers are for illustration only — odds in real bets will differ.

Match Winner

Match winner bet

Select which team will win the match. Example: Team A vs Team B — if you think Team A will win, place your bet on Team A.

Toss

Toss betting

Bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. A simple 50/50 market — odds are usually nearly equal.

Top Batsman

Highest run scorer

Which batsman will score the most runs in the match? Bets can be placed within a team or across the whole match separately.

Over/Under

Total runs over/under

Whether runs scored will be above or below a set line. Example: whether a team's total in a T20 will be more than 160.

Multi Bet

Multi bet

Combine multiple selections into a single bet. If all selections win, you receive the full return — one wrong selection and the entire bet is lost.

Top Bowler

Most wickets taken

Which bowler will take the most wickets in the match. With a mix of pace and spin, odds in this market tend to fluctuate more.

Powerplay

Powerplay runs

Bet on how many runs will be scored in the first 6 overs. In T20, the powerplay often sets the tone for the match.

Understanding Odds

Decimal, fractional and American odds together

The same odds can be written in three different ways. See the example below for Team A's odds of winning:

Format Odds Explanation
Decimal 2.50 You receive ৳2.50 back for every ৳1 bet
Fractional 3/2 ৳3 profit for every ৳2 bet
American +150 ৳150 profit on a ৳100 bet

Example 1 — Bet on Team A to win (odds 2.50)

If you place a ৳1,000 bet and Team A wins, you receive ৳2,500 back (৳1,500 profit plus ৳1,000 stake). If Team A loses, the full ৳1,000 is lost.

Example 2 — Team B is the favourite (odds 1.80)

Team B's decimal odds of 1.80 = fractional 4/5 = American −125. American minus odds show how much you need to stake to win ৳100. On a ৳1,000 bet, if Team B wins, you receive ৳1,800 back (৳800 profit).

cx generally uses the decimal format, as it is the simplest to read and understand. All three formats show the same outcome — only the presentation differs.

How odds change when a wicket falls — in-play betting

cx Live In-Play Cricket Betting Screen

In-play or live betting means placing bets while a match is in progress. In cricket, every ball creates a new situation, so live odds change from moment to moment.

What happens when a wicket falls?
The odds for the team that loses a wicket generally go up (meaning their probability decreases), while the opponent's odds come down. In T20, one key wicket can flip the entire market.

The impact of a big over
If a team scores 18–20 runs in an over, their odds of winning come down (meaning their probability increases). This shift is fastest and most dramatic in the later overs.

From powerplay to death overs
If the batting team scores well in the powerplay, odds move in one direction; but losing wickets in the middle overs shifts the balance again. In the death overs, odds reset after every ball.

Market suspended
The market is temporarily suspended at the exact moment a wicket falls or during a review. It reopens once the new situation is understood and new odds are set.

Betting Tips

A few practical tips for cricket betting

01
Understand one market well

Rather than spreading across many markets at the start, pick one — such as match winner or over/under. Once you understand it well, moving to other markets becomes easier.

02
Set a budget

Decide how much you will bet each session before you start. Betting is part of entertainment — avoid the temptation to place larger bets to recover losses. Read the Responsible Gaming page for guidelines on playing responsibly.

03
Be careful with multi bets

Multi bets may look attractive due to higher returns, but one wrong selection loses the entire bet. Multi bets with fewer selections are less risky.

04
Consider pitch and weather

Betting on pace bowlers in ODI or Test matches on a spin-friendly pitch increases risk. Rain and drop-in pitches also affect odds.

05
Avoid rushing in live betting

Odds change quickly in-play. If you miss a good opportunity, waiting for the next one is the wiser move, as cricket provides opportunities regularly.

FAQ

Questions about cricket betting

Both BPL and IPL are T20 franchise tournaments, so the main betting markets — match winner, toss, total runs — are similar. However, since local teams are more familiar in BPL, many bettors have a better understanding of pitch conditions and team form. In IPL, the participation of a wider range of cricketers means markets are broader and odds tend to fluctuate more. Live betting is available in both tournaments.

In T20, the outcome can shift within just a few overs, so odds change frequently. In a five-day Test, pitch changes, fatigue and weather influence odds gradually. In addition, a draw is a separate result in Test cricket, so bets are spread across three options, whereas T20 or ODI usually has two. For this reason, odds for each team in a Test are calculated differently than in T20.

In a multi bet, several selections are combined into a single bet. The odds of each selection are multiplied together, so the potential return is higher. Example: if three selections have odds of 1.50, 1.60 and 1.90, the combined odds are 1.50 × 1.60 × 1.90 = 4.56 (approximately). On a ৳100 bet, winning all three returns ৳456. But if even one selection is wrong, the entire ৳100 is lost — that is the main risk of a multi bet.

Live markets are temporarily suspended at the moment a wicket falls, during a DRS review, when play stops due to rain, and at the innings break. Once the new situation is assessed and odds are reset, the market reopens. These pauses are normal — it is best not to try to place bets during these periods.

In an over/under market, a specific number (the line) is set — for example, total runs in a T20 innings at 160. You bet on whether the runs scored will be over or under that line. If the innings total is 161 or more, over wins; if it is 159 or fewer, under wins. If the total is exactly 160, the bet is usually refunded — check the rules on the site.
